Confidentiality and Protection of Personal Information Policy

The confidentiality and discretion of the services JuriFamille of the Corporation de services du Barreau du Québec (hereinafter the “Corporation”) is governed by this “Confidentiality and Protection of Personal Information Policy”. This Policy is in keeping with SQ 2021, c 25: An Act to modernize legislative provisions as regards the protection of personal information, and describes the practices for collecting, using and disclosing personal information in connection with the activities of the JuriFamille services.

Users have the right, at any time, to request and obtain the correction of the information they provided (or to correct such information themselves online) by contacting the Corporation at (514) 954-3442.

User Information Usage

For Lawyers

To access the services provided by the JuriFamille website, we ask users who are lawyers for registration purposes, their membership number of the Quebec Bar, their postal address and a valid email address. The membership number is verified with the Roll of the Order of the Barreau du Quebec to ensure that they are a good standing member.

We also obtain the following information with the Roll of the Order of the Barreau du Québec to help us to fulfil some of the fields of the subscription form:

  • Title
  • name, surname and sex;
  • correspondence address
  • e-mail address

If necessary, lawyer users may amend such information in our records only but not on the Roll of the Order.

To make changes to the Roll of the Order, lawyers must apply to the Barreau du Québec via email at: tableau@barreau.qc.ca

For Family Mediators

To access the services provided the JuriFamille website, we ask users who are accredited family mediators for a proof of their accreditation as emitted by their professional order. This proof can be transmitted by email in electronic form or sent by mail to our postal address.

Upon registration, we require the following information:

  • Title
  • name, surname and sex;
  • correspondence address;
  • e-mail address

FOR ALL USERS, THE PERSONAL DATA ABOVE ARE COLLECTED FOR THE PURPOSES OF SUBSCRIPTION ONLY AND ARE NOT SHARED BY THE CORPORATION WITH ANY THIRD PARTY.

The information collected for your subscription will be accessible at all times to service administrators of JuriFamille except for User’s password which remains confidential at all times. In case of loss of password by User, the website JuriFamille has functionality allowing the user to reinitialize their password in an automated fashion. Moreover, the system administrators may issue under specific circumstances a temporary password to allow access to the services of JuriFamille and allow the User to choose a new confidential password.

Your subscription account as a User will be retained as long as you hold your subscription current with the Corporation by purchasing an access license. If you have not purchased any license for a maximum of seven (7) years from the expiry date of your last subscription, the nominal information about you will be destroyed or deleted from the Corporation’s system.

The Corporation may also communicate with Users by email or regular mail to inform them of changes, additions or changes to the services of JuriFamille.

Data Retention of User’s Clients Records

The Corporation will retain in its system, data from User’s clients records for a maximum of seven (7) years from the date of expiry of last User’s subscription to the services of JuriFamille.

Upon expiry of this period, personal data from-User’s clients records will be deleted from the Corporation’s system but the numerical data of User’s clients records will be retained for statistical purposes.

Technological Information

The Corporation makes backup of technical information (on the HTTP protocol) to facilitate User’s access to the services of JuriFamille. Cookie technology is used to allow Users’ authentication to persist, including the state of the web application, for a period of at least half an hour. No nominative or personal information is included therein.

For all access to public pages viewed by User, the only information collected are the following and only for statistical purposes and for improving the services of JuriFamille:

  • the name, address, IP address and domain used to access this site;
  • the type and version of browser and operating system used;
  • Web site where you come from (when you clicked on a link to this site).

These data are collected without the use of cookies. The data allow to see which pages are viewed, for how long and in what order. These data will be preserved indefinitely for purposes of comparison from year to year.

Security Measures

The data is stored on dedicated servers operated by the Corporation and located in Montreal (Quebec). Only directors, officers, employees, representatives and agents authorized by the Corporation de services du Barreau du Québec have access to said servers and the data they contain.

The Corporation takes reasonable technical means to ensure a safe environment and protect User’s data, including the use of fire barriers, antivirus and servers redundancy.

Access to the JuriFamille website is done exclusively through the HTTPS protocol, which means all information exchanged between the servers and the Users are encrypted with SSL/TLS technology, using an encryption key of 2048 bits.

In a transaction involving purchases by credit card, credit card numbers are not saved in the the Corporation’s system and must be provided at each transaction.

The Corporation maintains regularly backup copies of User’s database on a daily and monthly basis and this incrementally. USER REMAINS LIABLE TO KEEP COPIES OF THE RESULTS FORMS OF ITS CLIENTS RECORDS IN PDF ON ITS PERSONNAL COMPUTER OR TO PRINT THE FORMS IN PAPER FORMAT TO BE FILED IN ITS CLIENTS RECORDS TO ENABLE RECOVERY, IF NEEDED.

Finally, as part of maintenance and correction of the problems of the online services, the Corporation confirms having confidentiality agreements with its computer subcontractors in order to protect the confidentiality of User’s client records.
